Folsom, California – On January 15, 2010 the ASCE Sacramento Section Construction Institute hosted Crane Safety for Engineers and Supervisors. The event was held at the Folsom Community Center with 175 Engineers and Constructors in attendance.
Funded by an OSAA Susan Harwood Training Grant the course was designed for construction engineers, supervisors and owners, who want to learn more about crane safety on construction sites, and how to develop comprehensive crane safety plans that are both safety-program compliant and project specific. The course was designed to raise the awareness of engineers and management about their roles, responsibilities, and influence with regard to safety on the construction worksite – especially crane safety.
Dr. Marvin Oey, P.E., and Director of the ASCE Construction Institute; Phillip Alterman, P.E., F.ASCE, Forensic Engineer, and Anthony Brown, Risk Manager conducted the four-hour training session. Topics covered included:
• Establishing a Crane Safety and Lifting Program
• Mobile Cranes and Alternate Lifting Methods
• Rigging Awareness
