Getting Ready to Launch the Sacramento Section
Infrastructure Report Card
David M. Schwegel, PE, Sacramento Section Senior Director
The Sacramento Section Infrastructure Report Card team is getting ready to launch the report card. Expected categories include bridges, drinking water, flood bypass systems, heavy rail, levees, mass transit, roads, schools, and wastewater. Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 5, 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Mayflower Chinese. All grades and reports are due by Wednesday, June 7. The format will be a four-page fold out similar to the levee/flood protection report card released in February. The detailed reports and methodologies will be posted on the website (www.asce-sacto.org). If youre currently not on the team, theres still time to join. If youre interested in becoming part of the team or have questions, please contact David Schwegel (dschwegel@stantec.com, 916-569-2530). The primary focus is on the release event, which is scheduled for Thursday, June 29, 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Capitol Rotunda. To enhance the effectiveness of this event among politicians and the public, we will be utilizing the efforts and expertise of two prominent individuals. Brenda Jew Waters, who brings considerable media and promotional expertise, will be coordinating the publicity efforts and sponsorships. Lobbyist Keith Dunn has offered to donate his efforts for legislative relations for the Infrastructure Report Card Release Event. ASCE members are invited to participate in this non-partisan event. We are looking at a dinner event with a possible train ride and technical tour. Sponsors play a key role in enhancing the public awareness and appreciation of our civil engineering profession and convincing elected officials of the need for increased infrastructure funding. Three levels of sponsorship are available, $500, $1,000, and $2,000. The $500 sponsors will receive recognition in the program and the opportunity to present a display board. The $1,000 sponsors will receive the $500 benefits plus a single table of eight at the release event. The $2,000 sponsors will receive all of the above benefits plus a second table. If you are looking to play a valuable role in charting a positive course for our profession over the next several years, please consider sponsorship. If you are interested in being a sponsor or have questions about sponsorship, please contact David Schwegel (davidmschwegel@aol.com, 916-569-2530). The executive committee welcomes sponsorship from professional organizations, companies, and individuals. Please keep your eyes peeled for flyers identifying the specific time and location of the release event. This promises to be an exciting and historical event that you wont want to miss. Thank you
